Center Purpose
Initiated by professor HUANG Youfang and LING Guolong, the Logistics Research Center (LRC) was founded in 2003 originally as a research institute supported by Shanghai Maritime University. In the view of the two professors, though it was like a baby at that time, the LRC would facilitate the fast development of China’s Logistics industry. The purpose of the LRC is to develop sophisticated logistics researches, advanced talents and services to the industries and the country. With the fast development of China’s economy and the logistics industry, the LRC of Shanghai Maritime University as one of the first LRCs in China has gained supports from the society and the governments, and becomes the most famous and advanced LRC in China and even in the world.
Roles & Activities
Synchronized with the educational and industrial demands on logistics talents and innovations, the LRC of Shanghai Maritime University has continuously evolved and upgraded. Its responsibilities to the society, the industries and the country have been identified and formed.
Education. With servicing the logistics industry and related industries as its purpose, the educational role of the LRC has been strengthened since 2007. Numerous advanced talents obtained their master degrees, Phd degrees or even worked as post doctors in the LRC. A formal and holistic system of logistics education has been first established in China, including master degrees (Logistics Engineering, Management Science and Engineering, Control Theory and Engineering) and Phd degrees (Logistics Science and Management, Logistics Technologies). Every year, more than one hundred master/PhD students graduate from the LRC.
Research. The LRC is one the first LRCs founded in China and gains a good reputation in the new research communities in logistics, container terminals, shipping and related research fields. The researchers of the LRC have published more than one hundred SCI/SSCI journal papers and financially supported by the NSFC for more than ten times. The researches on logistics are diverse, satisfying formal academic and industrial requirements. The LRC educated a lot of logistics researchers and advanced practitioners. A lot of research institutes and talents closely cooperate with the LRC to develop top researches in the world.
Industry. The LRC is natively a comprehensive logistics intelligence service provider. This service role and a lot of open activities make the LRC famous and respected in the industries and governmental departments. The education and research systems are both developed under the industrial servicing purposes. The LRC has undertaken a lot of research projects from various companies. Strategy and management consulting, information systems and innovation solutions are typical demands served by the LRC.
Objective
Repositioning. The LRC is a leading logistics research institute in China and plays an increasingly important role in logistics industry. To grow the industry’s impact and even promote its role in education and government systems is the first objective for the long run.
Profit from research. The LRC has developed a lot of industrial and educational toolboxes, including iLogstics cloud platform and the global cold-chain container monitoring system. Significant high-tech products and brands in logistics will be created in the era of big data and artificial intelligence.
Great research. The LRC has produced numerous research achievements including research articles and grants, as well as advanced talents. Great researches, researchers, grants and various achievements will be pursued by the LRC.
